Turn your Sticker into a Hang Tag
Ahh.... hang tags. That small detail that somehow makes everything feel a bit more thought through. Think of a hang tag sticker as the lovechild of a sticker and a label. You get the best of both worlds; It can hang, inform, and still stick when needed.
TL;DR:
-
A hang tag sticker is a sticker with a punched hole, allowing it to be attached before being applied
-
The front is used for your main design, while back paper print can be added for additional information
-
The hole must be at least 3 mm
-
You can prepare the file yourself or leave instructions and get help with the setup
What is a hang tag sticker, really
A hang tag sticker is exactly what it sounds like, a sticker with a punched hole so it can be attached instead of applied right away. It might not sound that exciting when you put it like that… but please, hang on (pun intended).
Instead of sticking it directly onto a surface, you can hang it on a product using a string, ribbon or hook. In other words It becomes a part of the product before it acts like a sticker.
Once it has done its job as a tag, it can still be used as a sticker. So instead of something temporary or disposable, you get something people can interact with, keep, or reuse.
A simple format, with double the fun!

Business in the Back, Party in the Front
Hang tag stickers give you more than just one surface to work with. All hang tags come with back paper as standard. If you want to make more of it, you can add a custom back paper print for an extra cost. This lets you use the liner for extra information or branding.
Front = what people notice first
Your logo, artwork or message should feel clear and easy to read at a glance. This is what draws attention, so keep it focused.
Back = where the details live
Instead of squeezing everything onto one side, you can move the practical information to the back:
-
Size or product details
-
Pricing or barcode
-
Care instructions
-
QR codes or social links

In the Making of a Hang Tag
Step 1. Start with the design and intended use
Before setting up your file, think about how you want the hang tag sticker to work.
Since it is meant to be attached instead of applied right away, the hole needs to feel like a natural part of the design. It should not interfere with your logo, text or other important elements. Planning that from the beginning makes the rest of the setup much easier.
Step 2. Add the hole and define the cutline
Once the design is in place, add a clear indication of where the hole should go. You can do this by including it in your file setup or marking it with a separate guide layer.
The minimum hole size is 3 mm in diameter, which makes it suitable for strings or ribbons and ensures clean production. At this stage, you should also define the outer cutline as usual.
Step 3. Final check
Before sending your file, take one last look at the full layout. Check that nothing important sits too close to the hole or the edges, and that the overall design still feels balanced.
If you are using both front and back, make sure the information is placed clearly across both sides. If needed, you can also leave a comment with your order if you have specific requests for the hole placement.
Prefer to keep it simple?
Feeling a bit lost after reading the steps? We get it. You do not have to be a pro graphic designer to make this work.
If you are unsure about hole placement, sizing or cutlines, you can simply upload your design and leave a comment with what you have in mind. We will help place the hole and make sure everything is set up correctly for production.

Final Thoughts
You can use them on clothing, products, packaging… or honestly wherever you want. Tie them onto something, hang them up, let them be part of the product or just a small detail on the side.
One of my personal dreams is to fill an entire Christmas tree with hang tags. Maybe a bit crazy, but still… imagine how fun that would be?! At the end of the day, it is really just your imagination setting the limits.
